Nurse comforts 5-year-old waking up from surgery in touching viral photo

When a 5-year-old Pennsylvania boy woke up from his tonsil surgery, all he wanted was to be snuggled and cared for. That’s when a nurse jumped in to help.

That unexpected gesture was caught on camera and has been shared hundreds of times.

Slade Thompson, of Clinton County, waited patiently for his new friend, nurse Annie Hager. Thompson came to UPMC last month to get his tonsils out. It was his second surgery this year.

“He’s been through a lot this last year,” Slade’s mother, Layla Thompson, told WNEP. “We had been in the children’s hospital, so we were kind of nervous just going to a hospital to have it done.”

The day of surgery came and went well. Slade’s mom Layla was in the waiting room.

“They came out and said, ‘He’s awake,’ and we thought, ‘Oh, my goodness,’” Layla said.

Before mom could go back to see Slade, a team of nurses had to check her son’s vitals.

“When I told him mom couldn’t be there, he asked if I would snuggle him and I said, ‘sure will,’” said Annie Hager, a registered nurse at UPMC Susquehanna Health in Williamsport.

That single act of kindness made Layla’s concerns for her son disappear.

When Slade Thompson of Renovo woke up from tonsil surgery, all he wanted was to be snuggled and cared for. Not thinking twice, Annie Hager, RN, climbed right into the bed and snuggled the little boy. As a nurse, providing care is one thing, but making sure our patients are calm and comfortable matters just as much. It’s nurses like Annie – who show true compassion – that keep our patients happy. During Nurses Week, we thank our nurses for taking time to make personal connections with patients. Annie’s connection with Slade was so real that he brought her flowers at his follow up appointment.

“You want someone to treat your child the way you would treat them, you know, so whenever I turned the corner and saw them, I looked at my fiance and we both went, ‘Aww!’ We both started getting a little teary-eyed,” she recalled.

She snapped a photo that’s been shared hundreds of times on social media.

“Anyone that works up there would have done the same thing,” Hager said.

When Slade and his mom came back for another appointment they brought a gift — flowers and a hug for their new friend.

“I cried, yeah,” Hager said. “It’s humbling.”

Idiots trying to siphon fuel end up sucking shit from sewage tank

Undoubtedly the most fitting ‘Funny Shit’ content we’ve published this year

A group of low life thieves trying to siphon fuel have discovered there’s more than one holding tank on a tour bus.

The unknown individuals spotted the bus parked up in Laverton, central West Australia, in the middle of the night. But when they tried to pinch some free fuel, they mistakenly put the hose in the sewage tank – coping a mouthful of raw shit in the process. HAH. Good job.

Police discovered the failed attempt when the sewage tank cap was found on the ground the next morning.

“We can infer they beat a very hasty retreat, with a somewhat bitter taste in their mouth,” Laverton Police Sen. Sgt Heath Soutar told Yahoo.

Unsurprisingly, police have “zero interest in recovering the stolen goods.” But they are keen on on a laugh, adding that ‘we hope word of mouth’ would lead them to the crims.

  • Woman sent 159K texts after online date, threatened to ‘make sushi’ of man’s kidneys

Woman sent 159K texts after online date, threatened to ‘make sushi’ of man’s kidneys

Woman sent 159K texts after online date, threatened to ‘make sushi’ of man’s kidneys

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. – A woman accused of bombarding a man with 65,000 text messages after a single date is now believed to have sent more than twice that amount.

According to court documents obtained by the Arizona Republic, then 31-year-old Jaqueline Ades, of Phoenix, sent the victim more than 159,000 texts – many of them threatening – over a 10-month period starting in July 2017.

“I’d wear ur fascia n the top of ur skull n ur hands n feet,” one of the alleged texts read.

Another read, “I’d make sushi outta ur kidneys n chopsticks outta ur hand bones,” according to police.

Ades told investigators they met on a site called Luxy, which advertises that it can connect users with “verified millionaires.”

In July 2017, Ades was found parked outside of the victim’s Paradise Valley home, police said. Officers found Ades still outside the victim’s home when they arrived and told her to leave, officials said. Shortly after, the man started to receive threatening text messages from the suspect.

Police received a similar report in December from the same residence, but officers were unable to locate her.

On April 8, the victim called a detective a third time, saying he was out of the country, but saw Ades in his home while checking his home surveillance video.

When officers arrived at the home, the woman was taking a bath, police said. Body camera video obtained in a public records request by the Arizona Republic allegedly shows her telling an officer, “I guess that I made up a whole scenario in my head where I live here, so I came here and pretended that’s what was happening.”

A large butcher knife was discovered on the passenger’s seat of her car, court paperwork said. She was taken into custody and charged with trespassing. Police noted in her arrest record that she showed signs of mental illness.

After Ades was released from jail, she allegedly started sending more threatening text messages to the victim — some of the messages alluded that “harm may come to him,” according to KNXV.

Less than three weeks later, the victim called authorities to report receiving multiple threatening text messages from her, court documents said. The man also explained that they met on a dating website, and after one date Ades began stalking and harassing him. The victim said that she sent about 500 text messages to him a day, court documents said.

In one of Ades’ messages, she allegedly stated, “…Don’t ever try to leave me…I’ll kill you…I don’t wanna be a murderer.” She also said that she wanted to wear his body parts and bathe in his blood, court paperwork said.

Ades is being held without bond at the Maricopa County Jail after pleading not guilty to charges of stalking and criminal trespassing. Her trial is due to begin in early February.
