Zulfi Bukhari submits reply in SC on petition seeking his disqualification

December 5, 2018 By Rana Waqar Leave a Comment

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfi Bukhari on Wednesday submitted a reply in the Supreme Court on a petition seeking his disqualification.

In September, a petitioner moved the top court against Bukhari’s appointment as the premier’s special assistant on overseas Pakistanis and human resource development as he is a dual national.

In his reply submitted today, the premier’s close aide said, “I am not a member of the Parliament and Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution only apply to parliamentarians.”

Requesting the Supreme Court to dismiss the petition seeking his disqualification, Bukhari said, “I was born in Britain and did not seek citizenship after. I am advising the premier on issues of overseas Pakistanis.”

“If advise can be sought from international institutions then why not from dual nationals?” he asked and added that the top court permitted overseas Pakistanis to cast votes.

Bukhari further said, “The prime minister has the right to appoint special advisers.”
