Vascular Sonographers are cardiovascular technologists who use ultrasound instruments to listen to the flow of blood in a patient’s heart and blood vessels. A position as a cardiovascular technologist usually requires an associate degree. While the U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics found that cardiovascular technologists earned an average of $53,050 per year in 2015, those in some states earned much more than in others.
Alaska
Alaska was the highest-paying state for cardiovascular technologists as of 2015. Cardiovascular technologists working in Alaska reported an average hourly wage of $36.44 and an average annual salary of $80,310, significantly more than in any other state.
District of Columbia
District of Columbia reported the second-highest average pay for cardiovascular technologists in 2015, $34.90 per hour and $72,590 per year.
New Jersey
New Jersey ranked third in the nation for cardiovascular technologists pay in 2015, with an average hourly wage of $33.72 and an average salary of $70,140 per year. Technologists working in the Camden area led the pack, with an average salary of $72,500 per year.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts offered cardiovascular techs the fourth-highest wages in the country as of 2015, an average of $33.34 an hour and $69,340 a year. The areas of Brockton and Bridgewater reported the second-highest pay in the nation for this occupation, $81,630 per year.
Washington
Washington reported the fifth-highest average pay for cardiovascular technologists in 2015, $32.34 per hour and $67,270 per year. Those in the greater Tacoma area reported the highest average annual pay in the state, $70,060. Those in the Spokane area also reported a high average salary, $68,620 per year.
